how much are they over there?

we took the 9" center from the rally car in to the diff guy and the parts I think were $aussie 750 and labour about $400 or so to fit up and reinstall in the car.

I want one too...man they are so good to drive on compared to open, LSD (posi?), full spool, fake spool (welded gears) or Torsen.

do youself a favor and never consider a spool again. i got one because i thought it would be fun for burnouts but the weak sub frames cant handel the preshure the spool puts on the car and my paint started cracking all over the place. i destroied my new leaf springs i just put in also. i eventchely traded my 3.75 geard spool for a stock geard open end because i wanted to be able to drive my car again.

well, first off... build a car that can handle it... a 71 is a unibody... you really have to TIE THE FRAME with atleast 2 bars going from the front unibody frame to the rear one, them throw an X inbetween. And some added supports between the unibidy rails wouldnt hurt. -Jon

I am asuming that your horsepower is not in the 300's or more so having a frame problem isn't an issue right now. When you do get to that point you can spend the money on connecting the sub frame because you'll already have the locker...[sm=gears.gif]

something that is held in high regards in the 4x4 community, but doesnt get the time of day on the street is a selectable locker. They can be electric or air operated, but when they are off they act like a standard open or posi rear, and when switched on, they act like a full spool. Theyre a little pricey at $850+ said and done, but it would be the ultimate in traction in a straight line, without sacificing anything on the street.

Try Currie. Looks like a couple Benji's will get you pretty close to a trak-lok.

I found mine (True-trac for 8.8" 31 spline) for $354.00 +$21.57 shipping to Northern California. That was Sept, '05, but you might check them out. Drive Train Specialists Seemed like nice people. They called the next morning confirming my internet order, and making sure all the information was correct. I thought that was nice service and pretty smart on their part.

Edit************
Almost forgot...Pay attention to the pin size. For the same price I picked up the chunk with the larger 7/8" pin.
*************
Good luck,
