how do they work? i dont get how the rivet or the gun or anything how it all works....enlighten me....

Basically its another way to secure or fasten metal plastic ect.. provided a hole is present you slip the rivet through the hole when the pin is pushed all the way through it pulls the flat dime sized part down and as it leaves it makes a lip at the other side of whatever your securing so it wont fall out the other end...

 

the pin is larger than the sleeve hole its in so it starts squishing the sleeve making a mushroom type deal on the back and when it reaches a certain point it "pops" off

 

I don't like pop rivets, all they do is put holes in your sheet metal and they haven't ever given me a tight seal that I want. If you can, always use clamps or vise grip type tools to tighten panels together. There is also a set of tools called CLECO fasteners. Might be better for you.

 

no no im not planning to use these or anything, i just saw a "pop rivet gun" and didn't really understand how they worked...

 

most newer cars have them holding in the power window motor they aint bad done right they wont come loose

 

They are used a lot for fibreglass panels and car my friend built a lotus 7 replica and he used thousands of the buggers
