I want to pull my original 351W and FMX for preservation sake and drop in another engine from another car/truck...which one would be best? I want 350hp, so I am assuming some mods will be in order (aluminum heads, intake, cam, carb etc.) But I don't want to have to modify the car - maybe a different trans cross member and drive shaft. As far as the FMX is concerned, it appears to be going out - a lot of vibration at higher rpm's - I was thinking about a C4. Any suggestions?

 

c4 is out, c6 prolly. fmx is a good tranny, get it rebuilt!

 

Not sure I understand that preservation thing. Do you actually plan on putting that engine back in that car when you get to be an old man and stand back and look at it and say something like......"Yeah, that is the original engine that came with the car." Overhaul the 351 and the FMX and use it for a weekend cruiser if preservation is your goal. Otherwise drive it daily until it drops, then overhaul and add as close to original parts as you can.
