Default gasket dressing...

I am hoping to install my headers this evening. I was just trying to figure out if I should use gasket dressing on the gasket or not. I am talking about the blue permatex stuff it has a name that starts with an "H". IT says for exhaust manifold gaskets on it. SHould I use this or install the gaskets dry?

Thanks

Header gaskets go on dry.

+1 on the dry gaskets. Also, get a little tube of thread locker (medium duty) and put a dab on each bolt. Help keep teh header bolts from backing out, as the are prone to do.

FYI, if the heads are aluminum, do not use thread lock, but definitely use anti-seize on the header bolts, spark plugs and anything else that threads into the heads.

Thanks for the tip, you learn something new everyday. Hopefully one day I will be able to afford aluminum heads so that I may make use of this tidbit.

I have aluminum beadlock wheels on my Jeep with 24 bolts per wheel. I use anti-seize like it is going out of style. Fortunately, I learned of the anti-seize long before getting them, but I do recall learning the hard way on something else. Oops.

BTW, if the headers are coming loose, the 'anti-loosen' bolt kit (don't remember the name) for about $40 works pretty well, however, you may damage some of the locking washers when you remove them if they've been on the vehicle for awhile and have any rust. [:'(]
