Default chrome vs. aluminum

in regards to your engine parts. i know aluminum stays cooler but it is such a pain to keep looking good. especially on the intake manifold. wich do you guys prefer and why?

Depends on the part. Both have a place in my engine compartment.

Chrome - like most things in life - is great if not done in excess.

I purchased my car with a large amount of engine chrome and crowds gather whenever I open the hood. I must admit against black paint the contrast looks very good (although I would never has spent the thousands of dollars it would take to duplicate what the previous owner had done).

Not a big fan of Chrome, and often I will paint aluminum heads and intakes the same color as the block. If you see chrome valve covers or air filter lid on one of mine, it probably came on the car as opposed to me putting it on there.

My feeling is chrome dont make it go. So if it doesnt help it go faster or more efficiently, I really dont need to spend the money on it.

The old adage is if it dont go, Chrome it.

Chrome looks good on the outside of the car, but IMO, painting the engine looks a lot better and will save you a lot of money to put into the engine to make it go faster.

I prefer stock looking components, painted engine and VC's, painted pulleys, etc. I do like the look of natural aluminum though. In fact, I left my timing cover and water neck natural. Generally, I do not use chrome in the engine compartment. However, if you like it, do it. Just rember, less is more in some situations.
