Default mystery part

This is probably a silly question, but can someone tell me what the round cylinder is that's attached to the firewall? It's behind the engine on the passenger side and about the size of an oil filter.

By the way, I am a new Mustang owner as of a couple months ago. Bought a 65 Fastback GT, 289 4V, 4 speed - it's raven black with a black pony interior. It is stock and has the the original block, heads and intake manifold. I am going to try to post some pics soon.
