Ya, I would like to restore it if just once to drive it. I know I will probably get killed in here but I am a bit more of a GTO guy. These car club guys could give me a ball park figure of how much it would cost to restore it though?

You just cant please some people can you? Just kidding, A gto is nice too maybe someone has a gto and wants a mustang, you can swap?

Cost of a restoration is like saying how much will it cost to build a house, it depends to what extent easier to ask the mechanic how much to get the engine working well, how much for new seats, how much to paint etc

Ok, I'm gonna chime in here. Remember this was your dads car. He was probally intent on rebuilding it and giving it to you once it was done. I know this feeling, being a Dad myself. I jsut bought a 65 coupe for my son and I to rebuild together for him. Someday you will be driving on the roads and see a car similar to this one and recall that your Dad had one just like it and then you'll remember back to the day you sold it and hate yourself for doing it. Talk to the Mustang people in your area.....see if you can find someone that is willing to store it for you temporarily. Keeping it and restoring it slowly will not only give you one of the best classic cars in the world, but it will be satisfaction that you did it for your Dad.

Ah yes another thing we are all fickle whether we like to admit it or not and never know where our car tastes may go, so keep it maybe youll prefer it over the gto in a few years or maybe next week when weve had more time to recruit you..... Years ago I never cared for the mustang but suddenly have cuaght the bug, I think it happened after watching a trail of movies with mustangs in them and just think they are one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Why dont you go watch bullit, misery and any other movies with cars in them and see if you change your mind. And have a look at this its a review by arguably the most respected man in motor journalism whos english and hates american cars apart from the mustang and the gt40. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKJXf_CkCds

Oh no, I like mustangs. You have to remember I am in southern california where mustangs are a pretty normal sight to see. I also have seen bullet many times along with going to many car shows. What I wouldn't give for a mach 1 lol. Like I said, I don't have much family around here. I only have an uncle in OR and he already has a few cars littering his drive way. That is the only other family I have around. How much does it usually cost for a somewhat good new engine with a little more power than the 289 8 cylinder as well as interior that won't fall apart for a few years. I am sure a paint job will only cost a couple hundred unless I decide to slap some shelby stripes on it. Thankfully I learned some sheet metal work a long while ago can fix some of the body work like dents. I never had a problem in wanting to restore the car. It was always a problem of how to actually do the restoring.

if your mechanically inclined then its really not to tough... especially if you get urself a good manual and have the smart guys on here help ya along the way.

Engine prices are all over depending what you want and how complete you want. I got a short block for 1,000 and just used some of the parts from my old engine.

Interior isnt to bad depending what you need.

The most expensive will be paint, a good paint job will usually cost a few thousand. Unless you go to maaco.... which their is a thread somewhere on here about their quality.

See, that is the trouble. I know nothing about engines so I wouldn't know what to buy. Once I looked and they started talking about pistons and what they were made out of. I just gave up right there because I didn't even know it mattered what the pistons were made out of. If you guys and gals can honestly tell me that I can get it going in a few months then I will attempt it. I just know noting about engines or wiring what so ever.

Oh I forgot to mention that I do have some manuals I have the 1966 comet, falcon, fairlane and mustang shop manual and the mustang chilton manual. Whenever I look at them I feel like I am reading greek.

Either ask people on the forum about engine or as I said get a mechanic to give you a free quote

Heres a picture of a car painted for 50$ with the roller method.
