what if
If the opportunity came up for you to sell your classic and buy a brand new mustang GT (8 cyl) 5 speed would you do it? Pretend you would get just enough money for your classic as it would cost to buy the 05+ GT. I love my classic and I say I wouldnt sell it get rid of it for anything, but if some one offerd me the right price (but trust me my car isnt worth 30k). I was talking to my dad today and + the cost of the car and modifications (keep in mind NONE to the motor yet) my car has probably the same amount of money into it that a new GT would have, I said I wish I knew that earlier, cuz the cold hard truth is: my car is slooooooooow. I can drop my foot to the floor and with one hand resting on the top of the wheel just cruize on and I dont really feel any power pushin me back into my seat. I've driven a number of performance cars and would hope to mod my car to the point where foot + gas pedal and no brake = shredded tires, like a new GT. AC, Heat, Saftey and without having to spend more money beefing the motor up so damn much. I wont be selling my classic, man if only I won the freakin lottery. please keep this in the classic section, those other guys dont understand [8D]
Absolutely not.
I'd drive my 4x4 ( which I do when it rains ) before I would ever sell my car. Well, it'd have to be for some kind of obsurd monies. I'd only take cold cash for it because I would be in the middle of another resto/mod as soon as I could.

i really dont care, i wouldnt sell/trade mine, im just seeing responses, after my dad and i had that talk one of my friends ask me this question, these are the responses i expected.
That's not why I own a classic - if I wanted tire shredding, neck snapping power I'd go build a race car or buy a new Saleen. I like the cruising factor with a little performance thrown in. Anyday of your choosing you can become a new car owner but not everyone gets to own a classic piece of history. (Granted you can own both neck snapping torque and a classic...but that is held in reserve for a discussion at a later date). You buy horsepower but you drive torque!
I'd sell my mustang for a good price, love the car but i am not emotionally attached to it. I bought my 66 Caprice when I was 14 and have had a lot of firsts in it... learned how to drive with it, learned all i know about cars with it... learned alot about girls in it :P
It would have to be a life altering amount to pull that car away from me, which will never happen so the car is mine to stay

its a funny thing isn't it.
If you had a new GT and got blown away at the lights by a Saleen or Roush or some other modded new gen Mustang, you'd be disappointed. Even more so when some Suby or Evo takes your shorts. Then you'd want to spend money on the new Mustang too. YOu'd soon end up with a faster car that owes you $60 and is worth $20k, because modding a current model depreciating asset is even more expensive than a classic, where it is at least possible to improve its performance and not over capitalise.
Its a relative thing too. I drive my Suby fast and its great. But if you overstep the boundaries, you are in trouble. Not because you cant control it if the tail steps out (regularly!), but because you are going so much faster when you cross that line. In the Mustang, I drive it fast by its standards and if you overstep the bounds of traction or outbrake youself it is usually at a lot lower speed. My friends cant understand this. It's like you actaully have to drive it and drive it well at any speed. You cant afford to take your mind off the job. You have to drive it with great skill at higher speeds. The more modern cars are like driving an armchair and any idiot can go quickish. Same idiot can get themselves into trouble too, but you only need to be a skilled pilot at warp speed.
Its simply more challenging to drive it hard and, in my book, that makes it more rewarding!
