Default Possible dumb question from a Mustang Newbie

I'm curious about this, and was told to repost this question here:

I'm an old Corvette owner, having a '74 Corvette. The Corvettes have different styles associated to them over the years, running as such -

C1 - 1953-1963
C2 - 1964-1967
C3 - 1968-1982
C4 - 1984-1996
C5 - 1997-2004
C6 - 2005-Current

Do the Mustangs have such a designation for the different styles/chassis? I know that they changed to a funky Torino style look back in the 70's when the Mach 1 came out, different from the original classics, and the 80's versions have a more squared off body compared to the 90's era, which was when style started to return to the Mustangs and now they've got the retro look to them.

Anyone know if there's any designations for the different eras?

Well there is sortof......the 64-66 are the original classics, the 67-68 are just a little bigger, 69-70 are then same and then 71-73.....these are all the classics..........then from 74-78 you have the Mustang II, then 79-93 is the FOX body, 93-98 SN-97?, and not really sure after that

Thanks, guys! That basically hits it on the head for me...

So, my dad had a classic mustang ('67), then a FOX body (80something, maybe 81-82? I'm not sure), and now I've got an S197 in the 2007 Mustang GT.

Cool!

I don't think you will get an argument out of anyone on this forum.

Yep...I built a 1929 Mercedes SSK kit car back in 1985, and I had two engine choices. Either the Volkswagen Bug, and it's floor pan/frame, or a 1978 Mustang 4 banger. Well, I wanted a real frame, so I opted for the Mustang 4 banger. The kit actually came with a real frame. Anyhoo.....that motor was a real slug, but the car looked exceptional.
