Default I give up...help please.

Can anyone please tell me how to remove an oil pan that is stuck on after 38 years? I can't fit any tools in for leverage and I'm going nuts. Thanks, Scott

Tap the oil pan sideways with a rubber mallet. Try to do it on a bend or crease, thats where the metal is the strongest. And Im sure you probably already know this but, make sure you have all the bolts out.

Use the widest and thinnest chisel you have and try tapping it in the slot with a hammer. Not very hard though. You wouldn't want to crack the block. You may bend the pan using the chisel method, but oil pans aren't that expensive.

On the chisel front you could also try a putty knife-very thin. I've used a 3" one for this sort of thing in the past and it's slid in with a little encouragement.

Yup, a thin putty knife should work wonders.

I suggest a gasket scraper. A chisel might dig and scratch. A gasket scraper is designed to scrape off material.

I use the BFRH method and hit the lowest point of the pan at the corners. Generally enough to knock a pan loose. Like Soarin said, these pans are cheap just in case your aim isn't too square.

I finally got it off after 90 minutes of struggling, swearing and wacking it as hard as i could with a rubber mallet. The rubber mallet didn't work. I finally widdled away enough cork to fit a chisel in there and pryed that sucker off. My pan has a bit of a dent where the chisel was but I need a new one anyways. Thanks everyone. Getting those crossmember bolts off was no easy task either. OYE!. I need a breaker bar or huge socket wrench for allot of this car.
