Original AM/FM radio

I would love to put in an original am/fm radio - but the are very hard to find. Anyone have any idea of what the cost should be and where I might find one?

RE: Original AM/FM radio

I've seen those go as high as $1,500.00 on ebay. There is a company that puts modern internals in old radios. They may have a stock radio, I have no idea what they'd ask for it.

You might give them a call. The other place I'd look is through a "Hemming's Motor News" catalog.

If you don't mind me asking, what turned you away from the Autosounds AM/FM repro? Just interested as I was thinking seriously about that radio.

Thanks,

I may still go with the new Customaudio USA 66. It looks just like the original AM/FM (and fits into the origianl opening). It lets you control the CD changer in the rear, will support an i Pod and subwoolfer... but it is not an original.

I am torn. There is something very charming about going back 40 years and listening to the radio as I did when I was a kid. Oh well, it's a great deal of money (but then agin so is the repro if you go with attachments and speakers and installation.

$100 to $200 for a unrestored/working (according to the sellers) on Ebay last time I checked.

Well, I must really pick the wrong times. Seems I either don't find an original AM/FM, or the ones I find are outrageously expensive. If you see something like that again, please let me know.
I'm with Timelockmind, there is something about the old radios with the one speaker up in the dash. Heck, I've enjoyed listening to Car Talk Radio with the stock AM radio while cruising around on the weekends, but FM would be really nice.
Thanks,

Scott

Have you checked the wrecking yards?

Smothers,
That's strictly an AM radio. No FM. I've seen these go as cheap as $20.00
