Rear axle over leafspring flip?

Rear axle over leafspring flip?
While watching "trucks" i saw that they took a jeep, and flipped the axles/carrier( the whole unit, not sure what to call it) and put it under the leafsprings, instead of on the top like stock. On my mustang it seems to look REALLY LOW and i dont like that. I like the stance of it higher. I put a jack under the rear and brought it up a bit and i like the look of "3 inches higher". Would flipping the axle be a good idea on this? Im planning on putting new leaf springs and such in the rear anyways, should i just go with a 1 inch lift spring and bigger schackles or flip the axle? Just an idea, but would the axle flip hurt/help performance? -Jon

Check you eye location on the rear leafs, you have 3 time standard eye sits above the spring, mideye which have the eye inline with the spring and reverse eye with the eye under the spring.

Flipping the axle would be too much work. Youd have to cut the mounting brackets and weld them upside down. It would be easier to get a 1 1/2" lift spring kit(since your getting new leafs anyways), and if still unsatisfied, get some lift blocks...

I try not to judge things 'too' harshly.
But the pontiac sig + this post could lead some to a conclusion you might not like
However, with that said.
No, do not do a leaf over on a classic mustang. It will not improve performance, it will only further reduce what ever amount of performance you might have left from your 40 yr old sagging leaf springs. If the car is too low in the rear, spend the couple hundred (and it really is only a couple hundred) on new 5 leaf standard eye springs and shackles and install them on the car.
