Default Elecrtical Issues

ok im have some electrical issues with my mustang mostly pertaining to the lights. heres the thing, when i turn on the driving lights, the rear lights come on as if i was pressing on the brake, which makes it so when i drive with the lights on the brake lights wont work. when i have the lights turned off however, they work but they arnt as bright as they should be. another thing is that when i turn the left blinker on they both blink but when i turn on the right blinker nothing happens. i talked to my uncle about this because he is pretty good with cars (btw he has a 66 mustang) and he said that it could possibly be because i dont have the front turn signals installed and it could be messing up the circut. what i need to know is what you think is wrong with it. could it be because i dont have the turn signals, could it be a ground, or is the wiring all messed up? i really need your help with this because until i get this fixed i cant really drive it. thank you

Almost sounds like the bulbs are in backwards and the graunds in the back are not proper. Does the licence plate light come on the parking lights? It uses the same ground in the back as one of the sides.

i didnt know it was possible to put the bulbs in backwards. my mustang is a '65 and dosnt have a license plate light. i was also wondering if there is a kit that would allow me to just re-wire all of the lights. i know i can get a complete painless kit for 600 but i dont need all of that.

Its not impossible if you force them in. Take one out and try putting it back in half turn and see if it goes in.

The best thing is to start with all the grounds in the back. Take all the wire covering off and check them. Lots of times problems like yours are from broken or rusted grounds. Lets start by fixing the running lights first, then go to the turn signal...

Thats so wierd, i had almost the exact problems you are having. What i did was buy a whole new turn signal harness that goes in the steering wheel, i also bought a new brake light switch that goes on the upper part of the brake pedal. As for the blinkers working on only one side, it turns out the guy before me decided to take the wiring in his own hands and really messed things up. You have to see if someone spliced any of the wires in you taillight harness together. On mine which is a 69 there are two wires that go into each rear light. One is for the lights and the other is for the blinkers, check to make sure that each light is getting their own different blinker wires from the front of the car. It could also be a malfunction in the trunsignal harness thats causing this. When i had my lights on and pressed the brakes you could see a difference and they were very dull with the lights off. I had to make a better ground and that solved that problem. Ask me anything else, i may have been alittle unclear.

Make sure you don"t have any 1056 bulbs (single element/single contact) in 1157 sockets (dual element/dual contact) The single element bulb will make contact with both contacts and backfeed the other circuits. Good luck.

ok i went outside and fiddled with it a little bit and i got it working a little better. i got the right turn signal working and the brake lights to shine brighter but the left turn signal still makes them both blink. i still cant figure out why the driving lights make the brake lights come on tho...where would i be able to get a harness for just the lights?
