Default Exhaust

I have to replace my current exhaust system and was going to go with the factory GT system from one of the parts houses. I have a GT car with dual exhaust now, but no resonators and the mufflers are small and completely round.

If I go with an orginal GT exhaust system (including resonators) will the car have any rumble to it or will it have pretty much no sound at all?

If you like the trumpets on the GT exhaust, why not just buy them and go to your local exhaust shop for the rest? It will probably work out cheaper, better workmanship and you can get whatever level of rumble you want.

You jst need to shop around a bit on prices and find someone with experience on these cars. If you take the trumpets to the wrong guy, they will make a mess of it!

I'd be willing to bet that the "original" GT system from the parts houses will be some reproduction of questionable quality and inflated price. Maybe someone else can shed more light on this??

good luck

The small round mufflers you have on it now sound like some old glass packs. They should be pretty loud. I don't know of anyone who makes reproduction period correct mufflers for your GT. My suggestion is that you take it to a muffler shop like Midas and have them put on what you like. If you are into the loud stuff, then the Flomaster and Dynamax mufflers may be your cup of tea. If you are interested in a more sophisticated rumble, then you might consider the Ravins that I run on mine.

You are right about them being glass packs Soaring - found that out at a local muffler shop. The car is really not very loud though - just has a very faint rumble sound.

flowmasters all the way. however the GT exchaust trumpets suck. They flow poorly, and cut down sound. I should know because i installed them on my car, and wasn't pleased.

Flows behind an H pipe. Just loud enough to get attention and subtle enough to cruise and listen to the tunes of your choice. I'm very pleased with that setup in my 66' Coupe.

Not anything too loud - just a low rumble.
