Ok well I have done a bit more research and I think the 351 will swap pretty easily. I am building a dream here so I think I would take the time and money to make it as close to perfect as I can. Now the 289 I have now is COMPLETELY disassembled. I would be willing to sell it, after I bought the 351 incase I change my mind. Sad fact is I will not be buying the 351 for over a year.

But I still need to know if I put the 351 Windsor into the '66will it be very difficult to swap the C4 for a T5 manual or something that can handle about 500hp. Sry it took me so long to reply and again THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!!

well if your going the 351 route, i would suggest a Tremec tranny rather then a T-5, unless you are going to take the t-5 in for a rebuild and a beef up

The tremec would be the way to go with the 351, it is a dream car after all. I just miss the point of putting the 351 in there, unless you are really going to use it as a platform for a stroker kit (427?). I am very partial to the 302 as a replacment engine for cars that came with 289. I like over achieving small blocks.

If you want 500hp then the TKO 500 or 600 is the way to go. Otherwise its a built C4 or C6, you will break anything else you put behind it. Also 500hp means it will find every weak link behind the crank hub.

Side loads on a 347 or 331 are negligible. Yes some piston designs have the pins too close to the ring package, that doesnt mean they all do. A stroker will last as long as any other engine provided its built with quality components, good machining, and isnt operated outside its mechanical limits.

Mustangteen87....

Where are you located at... Im inIndiana but have relatives in georgia and iowa thatwould probably do a pick up for me.If your are wanting to sell your 289 in pieces let me know. I wouldnt mind a upgrade from my straight 6. And if its in pieces, all the easier for me to rebuild it to how i like it.

Let me know

289 with 69 351 heads with a good port and valve job all the usuals a dual quad holman moody intake manifold or edelbrock air gap dual quad two holley 4150's at 350-390 cfm's each, new valvetrain w/hotter cam about 480-520 lift and290 duration which is verysimilar to the k code and boss 302 camshafts, I built this exact engine for a friends car with the holman moody intake, the engine would freely rev to right at 700 rpms and was an absolute screamer...

not to sound like the odd man out here, but you have a factory 289 car..... why not build the crap outta IT instead of getting rid of your original stuff? seriously i wanna slap people that are like "i wanna get rid of this 289 and get a 302" apples to apples, i would trade my 302 for a 289 any day of the week. you can build em to make gobs and gobs of power, they rev quick, and theres not too many people building them up anymore now that stroker kits are cheap.

do yourself a favor, build whatcha got - i promise you it'll make you happy
