Default power steering and water pump

Is it ok to start my car with power steering belt off? The car is on blocks so it isn't going anywhere. Also, do I have to drain anything to change the water pump? Thanks again.

Your car will run fine without the power steering pump. But, the water pump is driven by the same belt, which you will need after, say, 5-10 seconds to avoid hot spots.

You'll want to drain the power steering fluid before removing the pump. It wouldn't be a bad idea to flush the fluid whil you're at it.

What year Mustang do you have, and what engine? Looks like it may be the fuel pump.

You're all correct, even my wife knew what it was before me. UGH! I need to give her a wrench.
