Default Axle/housing width?

Hello, I have a 1971 stang that the owner swapped out to a 9 inch rear. I think the rear looks funny because its low, but it may be because the previous owner put in a narrowed 9 inch rear that makes the tires stick in a little more- and i dont like it. I looked online to find out what width the stock 9 inch rear carrier is and i cant find a steady answer. Some range from 56 inches up to 61.25 and ive found several inbetween. Which measurement should i trust or do you have a site that you KNOW is correct? The 9 inch i have now is only 55 inches wide and i think thats a bit short from what im reading. -Jon

Let me know when you find it, and I'll put it in the FAQ. My memory says 57", but don't go by that. I need to cook the cornbread for the dressing (stuffing) so I have to go for now and can't look it up.
