standard or electronic ignition
I have a 68 coupe. Am I correct to think that the standard ignition is a single point and a electronic ignition is a dual point? If I am wrong, how can I tell what I have? Thanks.
Just a quick "for what its worth " as far as the Pertronix setup. Iinstalled the Pertronixsetup and lucky me, the unit took a dump and left me sitting on aSunday afternoon far from home. Of course the local parts house did not stock them so there I sat. Luckily I have a friend with a roll-back who owes me severalfavors so I got home with no hassle.
Now, I know MANY people who have installed the Pertronix system and swear by it, but that left me with a sour taste.
After that I went with a Duraspark II setup that every parts-house in America carries parts for and I carry a spare in the trunk just in case. It has been almost 10 years and still have the same box with zero problems.

My next step, and my suggestion to sxs191, is to buy a MSD or Pertronix distributor with the separate ignition box. The more electronics you can add to your firing system, the better off you'll be.
SuperHoss... Are you referring to a Billet Distributor? If so, I was looking at them bought didn't want to drop $225 on it. I have the Pertronix Flamethrower II Ignition coil so I'm hoping that and the Pertonix Ignitor II Electronic Ignition will be a considerable upgrade.
The only problem I ever had with the Duraspark II was with the super cheap ignition boxes that you could pick up from PepBoys or Kragen for $20 or so about 15 years ago. I'm not even sure if that is an item they carry in stock any more. Anyway, the FoMoCo or OEM quality type replacements (about twice the price) served me well on three different Mustangs. The nice thing about the Duraspark two setup is that it won't affect your tach the way multiple spark boxes do. If you go with an MSD, you'll need a tach adaptor to run many tachs, including the vintage ones in the Rally-Pac.
Yeah, those super-cheap boxes will bite you.I guesswe can file that one under the heading of "getting what you pay for". If you go with a good Motorcraft or Standard make you should be good to go. I have a factory tach setup and there was no problem with the Duraspark setup working with the old wiring. After my debacle with the Pertronix I decided to try to stick with as many factory parts as possible. Yes I know everyone has a lemon from time to time (witness the Duraspark I setup for example, my mother had a brand new 75 Granada that would just up and die, any time or any place). But by and large, factory equipment is hard to beat as far as reliability and drivability goes.
