Default help finding rear end

I want to install a 9 inch rear end in my 67. It has a 4 boltrear end and i want to upgrade the breaks to5 bolt with disks. I havent been able to find and solid answer as to whichrear endswill work. All the different lengths. Does an axle that is 1 inch longer or shorter make a difference? How do i know if i have a 8.8, 9 or 10.25 inch? I have one of them out of a truck. If anyone has done this swap or can tell me whick ones will work or lead me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks

That's some good info in the FAQ's. For a short answer: You have a 7.5" rear.[:'(] Easiest bet would bea new rear, which can be had from several vendors. I'm partial to http://www.currieenterprises.com.

I have been reading what is posted in the FAQ section and there is alot if information there and in the links posted here.UnfortunitlyI can't afford a new rear end right now andI dont want to stay with the 7.5". Does a diference of inches in the length of the axle make a difference? CanI use an axle that is 1 or 2 inches longer or shorter without having things rubbing or does it have to be the exact length.

Spring perch location is a bigger issue that width. If the width is 2" too wide and the perches are in the right spot, you'll just need to adjust the backspacing on the wheels to compensate.

He doesnt have an8" but one would sure work for him. A daily driver doesnt absolutely need a 9" rear, all he needs to do is find an 8" that will bolt in. Mavericks and Granadas are great places to find a good rear end. Often a $200 car will yeild a bunch of good parts like that.

You simply take what you want from the other car, put it on yours, and put your old stuff on the donor, then sell it again. Usually you can make your money back by doing that. Get to lookin for cars that will fit. Worry about lockers, posi, and limited slip later.
