About the dash lights, the first thing to check is, obviously, the fuse. The dash light fuse is the smallest / shortest one in the fuse box. My '68 dash lights weren't working and I ended up undoing the entire wiring harness in the dash to track down the problem. It ended up that there is a two hole female plug to the right of the steering column behind the ash tray (in the '68) that looks like it might be for some sort of factory option that I didn't have (maybe A/C?). Well, there was a wire plugged into it from an aftermarket stereo that had been removed. Once I removed the wire, the dash lights lit up! I think the wire color if the harness is the same between a '65 and a '68 is the blue with an orange stripe? Hope that helps! I know the electrical problems are a pain!

Welcome Gumballer... where are you from?..perhaps that will help us to help you.

In 1965, Ford installed 2 different 6- cylinders in the Mustang.
- The 170 cubic inch (2.8 liter) was rated at 105 hp.
- The larger 200 cubic inch (3.3 liter) engine was rated at 120 hp.

New owners ofMustangsneed to purchase the originalfactory service manual. This book has all the basic information on the vehicle. Theyare often found on Ebay under "1965 Mustang Service Manual", either in hardback or on CD.

Another goodbook to purchase is the 1965 Mustang Wiring Diagram Manual. It will show the complete layout and wiring of your car.

Sinceyou said both your dash lights and your indicator lights are notworking, then it sounds like you have not grounded theinstrument cluster when you reinstalled it. There should be a ground wire that attaches behind or near theCVU (Constant Voltage Unit) that ties your gage panel to the chassis ground.

Good luck and let us know whatwe can do to help.

Back in the day, these were American engines and nobody knew anything about metric. Ford put a variety of I6 engines in the Mustang:
170CI 2.8L 101 hp
200CI3.3L115 or 120 hp depending on year and where the car was sold
250CI4.1L 155 hp
Stock for a 65 was either the 170 of 200, the 250 came out in 69 in a Mustang. The hp ratings were for gross hp. To compare to ratings of modern cars you need to reduce the above figures by about 20%.
