Default Front Suspension / v8 Spindel problem

Today i decided to disassembly my contol arms. But i cant seem to get the v8 spindel off of the upper, lower, and steering tie rod. Here are some pics.

Is there a special trick into getting these off?

The old upper control arm had four nuts thati was able to take off which then released part of the upper control but left a peice that i cant get loose from the spindel.

any ideas? [&o]

And hit it with your 5 lb sledge until you are tired, then one more time and it will come it apart. Works better when the spindle is still attached to the car.....so put it all back together, pop the tie rod, pop the lower off, then pop the upper off, then remove the upper arm.

If you have an air hammer you can get a pickle fork for it that makes it alot easier.

Pickle forks will work (I've got and used one), but you run the risk of damaging stuff. Another alternative is to go to your local auto store and see if they can rent you some sort of puller that will fit. The left is a pitman arm puller and the right is a ball joint puller.

The new joints will go right together and the castle nut torqueing will seat it all properly.

Sorry...not a big fan of whacking a 40 year old casting with a harden't steel sledge hammer. Sounds like the best way I can think of to induce a stress crack.

(And tools rent for free at the auto parts store..usually)

I still like the pickle fork setup I have for my air chisel/hammer, it takes about 3 seconds to get it apart, just push a little and pull the trigger...wrrpptptptptptpt and out.

I've never ripped a boot using it either
