Unbelievable
So I pick up this 67 Cougar, that I am planning on restoring. I can not get the stupid thing to start, so I start tracing wires and find a push butten switch wired directly to the starter under the dash, so I think to myself this thing is going to be a wiring nightmare.
Now here is the really funny part.....
My 15 year old daughter comes over, the car is going to be hers, and sits in the car. So I tell her to put on the emergency brake, since the car is going to sit at the end of my driveway for a while. She tells me Daddy something just squirted on the windsheild, and the brake won't stay in. I told her to do it again, and again the same results. I checked the brake the guy built a manual pump and used the emergency brake pedal to pump windsheild wiper fluid on the windshield....Unbelievable [sm=bangbang.gif]

Not quite...
The 67 Cougar/Mustang had a hand "pull-type" e-brake handle mounted to the bottom of the dash. They also used a foot pump for the windshield washers. Sounds like she actually hit the windshield washer foot pump and the hose is disconnected... [&:] Blame this one on Ford's design, not a previous owner mod!

That's okay, the lines were all cut when I got my 67, but the PO thought the pedal was installed as an intermittant wiper. I just said ohhh really that's neat. Got an entire new washer system and now I have washers again. Ohh and FYI if it gets below freezing the pump will stick till you get the heater going. Unless you use anti-freezin fluid. Ohh yeah, and it is a PITA to get the little hose that goes to the sprayers on and off the foot pump.

Welcome to the Confused Club. At least now you know!
Having a fondness for 67 Cougars, if she dont like it I would..lol. If I ever got the cash for it with all the projects underway..lol.
The park brake pull handle needs to be turned to get it back in, just so you know. Cougars are awesome first cars, I know I had way too much fun in mine (and now I am fixing all the fun I had with it) One thing to remember about them is there arent many reproducitons made for them, no fenders, doors or other sheetmetal is offered, that means you need to find a donor or buy one from someone who has parted it out. If you cant do either of those, its time to start fabricating.
Interior parts are difficult to find, the stuff that isnt Mustang or Cougar but Cougar only. Like door panels and dash parts. Trim is another place where things get ugly fast, nobody makes it like they do for Mustangs.
So tell her not to bend the car, and if the tail lights arent sequential, do the LED swap.. That is one of the coolest things about the Cougars, other than they arent like any other cars.

The sequential part does not work on the tail lights. I am not sure if it was an option or just inop. I am really interested in the LED conversion! The sheetmetal is all good that is why I bought it. I may have some cowl repairs, I am not sure. The drivers floor pan is toast - will a mustang fit? The dash it self is good, needs new dash pad, and I want to redo the whole interior. The car is really straight for the little money I have in it. It is going to be a wiring nightmare since none of the idiot lights work. I am going to concentrate on the mechanical brakes, engine, trans for now.
As far as the flip up lights go, I am assuming there are aftermarket parts availbale to refurbish them?

I wouldn't order a Mustang floor pan. Get your Cougar body panels and floor pans, etc. from places like this.
