Default Mild 302 Upgrades?

Was wondering on what you guys suggest to beef up a 302 with about 3k funds. Just like 300hp or maybe more. What are your average mans Aluminum Heads for 302's? The Edelbrock Performer ones that were mentioned on that other 302 thread looked pretty decent, but dont know what the gains are.

So far i have a performer intake, Hooker headers, msd ignition, and a holly 600cfm carb. The engine is also a 1990 302HO. Just wondered what your standard summit catalog horsepower gain parts are. I cant afford Twisted Wedge Heads, or at least i dont think i can lol.

then get some gt40 heads or get your heads worked cause thats where you are losing your power and you will need a cam to take advantage of the heads but in all honesty 3k is almost enough to get you a crate motor that will surpass your 300bhp goal so thats what i would go with ford racing crate engines then sell your block to some one to recover some of the money to buy other goodies that will need to buy so that your car can be drivable on the street mainly drive line then when you have a driveline that can handle that power you can focus on getting it to the ground with suspension

Suspension has been redone recently, rear ends strong. I'm still stuck between giving my Mach 1 the 351 it deserves or just beef up what i have. I just cant seem to find any 351's except for one.

http://proformanceunlimited.com/spec...1_390carb.html

I'm in love with that one, lol but it aint happenin. You think i could find a 351 300'ish HP for 3k? Remember i already have alot of the accessory pumps and crap. Thanks all, i hate repeating threads but this forum is incredibly helpfull, no matter how many times the same question is asked.

That is a late model 5.0 with a hydrualic roller cam.. but since they are relatively easy to find and retrofit, why not do exactly that? Still you could use the same heads but with your valve train type, the intake and everything else. Just go to a slightly larger cam and you are golden.

Well getting the AFR Heads and the proper installation parts sounds golden, along with Flowmaster 40's, and eventually a larger cam with those rockers. Seems like that may be a very simple road to take and it would get me where i would want. Thank you 68Scode. That article is wonderful.

for cheapy cheap stick with the roller 302 - toss in a larger roller cam and some GT40 heads, with your intake, headers and such you should be right where you wanna be. not to mention things like roller rockers which free up HP =)
