Whoever had the car before me never had a gear on the new cable. I just did the calculation and am ready to install the gear, clip and oring and then calabrate the speedometer for accuracy. I was just curious to how the gear fits the end of the speedo cable and how the retainer clip on?? I will soon find out!!! Thanks for your reply!!

Speedo gear is in al I have to do it check it out for accuracy and calibration for mph and odometer mileage. It took me longer to jack it up and place the jack stands uderneath that it did to put the gear in. I wish my garage had a lift in it!!!!

What gear did you get? I just bought one from NPD according to help I got on here and it doesn't look anything like my old one.

I checked the charts in the cjponyparts catalog and ordered the 16 teeth type 3a gear. It is designed for the 3.00 rear axle ratio, 8 cyl automatic transmission. I had them verify and double check for gear correctness. I will let you know tomorrow how close it is on mileage and speed. The gear is located on the drivers side of the tranny. According to my invoice the part numer is HW1282Speedo gear(17) 3A grn/wht and cost $7.95. I hope it is the right one!!!!

Guys,
I took the stang out this afternoon to check the speedo calibration in 50 degree weather in Rhode Island in the dead of winter. Unheard of to this point in my life. I found out the speedo gear a 17 teeth green/white color gear 3A type works but the odemeter reading for 1 mile was higher with than the premeasured distance that i selected. I think that means I need a 16 toothe driven gear??? What do you think??? Anyone, please a little help!!!!

Great deals at cjponyparts on Fridays and Mondays. I got a range of speedo grears from 17 to 20 teeth for just $15.00. That is a bargain when they usuallt go for $8 a piece. Check it out!!!
