Default T5 conversion question

Getting ready to do a T5 swap on my 68, 289 three speed stick. I am using the late model bell housing. one thing is not clear to me. do you need to change the block plate out to a late model? or can you use the 68 style? If using the late model style, do you need to change the starter to a late model? if so, will the late model require a different flywheel? I had read that you can use the original flywheel.I also read somewhere you could use a early model starter for a auto trans. Thanks for the help. Joe

Block plate, starter and flywheel should be ok. Since you are using the late model bellhousing, you are planning on changing to a cable clutch instead of the Z bar then I assume.

The late model bell housings use a pull type fork vice a push type like on the early cars. The fulcrum is in a differnt place. It pivots on the far side of the bell housing vice the near side. Have you taken this into account? It will make a big difference.

Dooh! I just read your post again. I guess you have planned for that. Good job. I went the other way with mine and used and early bell housing with an adapter plate.

Never heard of it being done quite this way.

You're running an early model flywheel/clutch/pressure plate setup inside the late model flywheel?

'dust shield between the block and flywheel should be ok. Only question I'd have is does the old starter still work.
