Bad news...
I completely finished the front end rebuild on my 64.5 today. suspension, steering, handling, and disc brake conversion. so i stayed up pretty late becaus ei wanted to put the wheels on and drop it down and see how low the shelby drop, 1' lowering spring (+cutting 1/2 a coil) put me on the ground. well since upgrading from 4 bolt hubs to my 9' rear and disc front i was going to use the original rims from my 99 gt. well they dont fit in the front! so now the car is going to sit until i can afford a new set of rims...so damn frustrarting!

I'm really confused, aren't those wheels 16". Where you rubbing? between the wheel hub center and the caliper? How much? I too had issues on my 66, but not using newer wheels. It wasn't much,a little grinding and cleanup on the caliper couldn't fix. There's morethen enough material on the calipers to grind 1/16 or 1/8 of material depending on the location. SSBC indicated a 1/16 clearance was sufficent for wheel and brake clearance.
yeah 16s are not good, can remember what MM it was in but they explained that the 16 rim hit something, don't know why the tire didn't on 15s but 17s cleared over whaterver the 16s hit.
It's not the rim diameter that is the problem. It is the fact that late model Mustang wheels use a deeper backspacing which causes the rim to hit the upper control arm. Had the same thing happen to me. They make spacers specially for the use of late model wheels onto a classic Mustang. Anyone running late model wheels is using them. I think they are around $50 each.
the rims are 17'. they are hitting on the upper control arm. no steering in the way. here is a picture of the rims when they where on my 99 gt. anybody want a set of 4 lug boyds?
