Default Which carb on a 72' 351C

Okay I have a 72' 351C 4BBL Cobra Jet (Qcode) I currently have 3 carbs. one old school holly with a bad float(and powervalve), One motorcraft recently rebuilt automatic carb, and the orignal motorcraft manual carb. The two that i can actually use need a rebuild, but since i was looking for a nicer carb, with electric choke, i was simply going to ignore those carbs and set up a nice new one. my question to you is which carb have you guys had the most success with? the engine is stock right now. I was thinking of trying the street avenger, but I'm hesitant to try holly again. Thanks for your time

Try a Demon 650-750 vacuum secondary. If you want to stay away from a Holley, the Demons work nice. They are pricey though.

You could always ship me one for a rebuild..

holleys are excellent, and demons are even better - note that they are designed after holley's and can use many holley parts.

edelbrock/carter fans take note....... dragsters and nascars only use one brand and it must be for a reason

First determin the carb you need.
351 cubic inches at 6000 rpm at 100% eficency is 609 cubic feet of air.
So Im guessing your engine is not 100% eficent and your not going to turn it 6000, That would mean a carb of 500-600 cfm would work fine. The prices for a 500-600 carb are from 250-500$
Buy a Mustang 5.0 book and in there advertisments they have 500-600 edelbrock carbs that go for $250. or so. The Martel Brothers company sells them for $289 electric choke and $259 manual choke. hears a link to there site. http://www.martelbrothers.com/home.php?cat=620

You already have one of the best carbs ever built for that engine. That Motorcraft 4100 is about the most reliable carb out there. Just rebuild it.

I'm going to bite (since nobody else has)... What is the difference between the automatic carb and the manual carb? Are you referring to the choke activation or the transmission?

One has a portfor the vacuum modulator, the other doesnt, in addition to the linkage for the kickdown on some model fords. 67s dont need it, the throttle arm has an attachment for it instead.

Thanks for the explanation, Thumpin, and the relation to my 67!

I just picked up 2 4100's and one 4300 for 10 bucks at the Webster swap meet. I'll gladly rebuild one and send it to you for 250.00

On a serious note - just rebuild that 4100 as suggested. You can't go wrong, esp. with a stock setup. There's a reason that carb was so popular.
