Scott's probably right if you have an automatic. I have mine set at about 800 with my manual tranny. No studder at all when taking off.

When I used to have a 289 auto and It needed the idle set, I would start it, make sure its warmed up to operating temp, put it in gear, turn on all the power stuff that may be on sometime and then set the idle to where it sounds and feels right, probably a good idea to have two people doing this. Unless you like running after your car, (come back, come back)
