Make sure the BOSS keeps the gas pedal in the same place during the process. The enging will go up and down in rpm but don't move the gas pedal or it will change the points advance.

okay, does this apply to an electronic type ignition as well, I have new(er) accel dizzy.

What controls your timeing advance? cintrifical or computer? if its computer then NO.
If its a computer controled spark, You lost me.

Im don't have a clue what a accel 5121 is. But if its not computer controld it must be centrifical controled unit or you wouldn't have any advance built in/ and yes it would be the same way to set it without a timming light. I would guess it does not have a vacuum line going to it , correct?
