well that depends on what you are talking about carbs are usually 1v,2v,4v where as most cyl heads are either 2v,3v,4v so you gotta be more specific

In old engine specs the V meant Venture, a 4V was a 4barrel carb
On new engine specs the V means Valve 4V means 4 valves per cylinder
By the way a 3V was a 950 Holley 3 barrel., back barrel was a Twinkie looking venture.

ya as above all stated.

carbs: 2v is two barrels that lead into the intake, ive never heard of a 3v carb but 4 is two primary barrel's and 2 secondaries. the more barrel's in theory the more power (gas and air) that can be put into the cylinders thus bumping up the compression ratings.

valves: 2 valve is one valve for intake and one for exhaust. 3v are used in the brand new stangs. im not totally sure what the set up on them is. and 4v of course is 2 for each intake and exhaust. again more valves gives u better compression and more power.

note that of course the more valves or barrels (sorry....venturi's) the higher the price for the product....usually

My dad's first carb on his '67 fastback was a holley 3 barrel. I've never seen one or heard of one other than from him.

Okay,

Did some research. Holley 3bbls came in more than jsut the 950cfm. And I'm sure that cfm ratings are somewhat differnt for 3bbl vs. 4bbl just like they are for 2bbl vs. 4bbl. Here are some pics:
