Ah. You have adjustables?

It's going to take some work, but it will save your valves. Place each cylinder at TDC and loosen the net. If the valve spring goes up, then that valve was being held open. Then, readjust per the many instructions I'm sure you've seen here (zero lash + 1/2 turn or so for a standard hydraulic). It's likely your lifters were collapsed when you adjusted the valves, so that would be why they are being held open.

you hit the nail on the head i had never put an engine together with hydraulic lifters so it seemed odd putting them in but it seems alot more maintanance free so i like that

The instructions in that link will work. Just remember to pay attention if your lifters are collapsed. If so, adjust to about 0.004" of lash (per instructions in my Pro Magnum lifters that have no internal spring).

well should i use a feeler gauge and set it that way i was told to use .0015" clearance between the valve and rocker so i dunno what method would you recomend to use i just want it to idle smooth

Start loose (0.004") and go from there. It's a lot easier on your engine, specifically the valves. If they are ticking, you can easily go tighter 0.001" at a time.
