New rear end tight.
I just finished installing a new posi 3.55 thirdmember and new moser alloy axles. All new bearings and seals are installed. My question is whether or not it is normal for it to be quite difficult to spin the axles. I have the car in neutral and when i grab the either one of the axles it is quite difficult to spin. Is this because i havent yet had it out for a test drive and everything is still all tight and need to be broken in? Also how big of an improvement am i going to feel from the stock 2.79 open diff. rear end?
Thanks
Matt

Yeah, it will feel a little tight at first, but that tight assed feeling is what you are wanting to achieve. If you followed all the installation directions and torques, you should be ready to go. Take it easy for a few thou miles so that everything has an opportunity to mesh and become one unit.
I understand what you are saying ZZmustang but when the thirdmember was out of the car it spun fine. I also had the thirdmember built by a pro. The axles also came from moser with everything pressed on. the only thing i had to do was take out the old and put in the new.

I should also add that it got tighter with each axle. At first when the pumpkin was in by itself, it was able to easily spin, but with each axle it progressively got more difficult.

Because the pumpkin turned easily without the axles attached makes it obvious that your rear is good to go. I wish I had a zap gun.
Take it out for a short drive, figure two miles out and back. It will get pretty hot in that time. Let it cool down and take it a bit farther and up to around 55 for a few minutes, then back and let it cool. The last rear I built was a 12 bolt with 3.42 gears and all new parts for the GTO. I did that with it and it took it a little while to break in, but now it runs out and doesnt get hot enough that you cant touch it after 20 miles.
If you go out and beat it, and just drive it around normally, taking it out on the highway and running it 50-80mph, you will heat that thing up real fast and it wont like it. If you stop the car and you hear things popping and oil making that sizzle sound, you got it a bit too warm. Or dont, I mean what do I know besides how to build them and break them in, ya know?
And FYI to all here, what stops the car are brakes. What you take to have a smoke or relieve the bladder is a break. mkay? [/mr.garrison]
