Default Holley Carburetor

After pulling my carb, I was able to see that it is a Holley, list #R-2143. After some research, using the part # CC2AE-9510D that's on the carb, looks like it is a 4160 that was originally on 1960-1962 Ford and Mercurys with a 390 engine. Is this too much carb for my 289? Is there any chance this is the original for my car? I have heard that Ford used to use old parts sometimes from past production runs.

Also, anyone know if this is a rare list and part #? I could not find any info on the Holley site for list # 2143.

Thanks

any chance you can post a pic of it? Does it have one fuel inlet and a transfer tube going down the drivers side between the floats? Or does it have two fuel inlets? If it has two inlets, are there two metering blocks on it, one for each bowl, or is there just one block on it?

Sorry, but there is no way it's original. And it probably is big, unless your 289 is a screamer. How's it run?

If the carb is off you can determine the size by turning it over and reading the numbers on the trottle plates.
TP# CFM
107/116 550

109/118 600

172 715, 735, 750, 780.

180 800

Full size '61-'62 looks to be correct. Remember, Holleys were only used for the hipo motors. Big or small block.
Having the ford number gives it value. There should be a third line on the airhorn with a three digit date code. Y/M/W.
Maybe you could get enough for it to buy the one you want. (C5ZF-C, C5ZF-E)
Do some research and good luck.

600 cfm (which is what it prolly is) really isnt too much for a 289 - specially if your doing anything at all to pep that 289 up.

Also, I checked the numbers on the plates- 107/116.

Sounds like I have a 550cfm.

Three years is an offal long time for a part to be sitting at an assembly plant.
