Drip Rail Delete
i remember talking about this a long time ago and people saying the drip rail is what holds the roof of the car to the bottom or soemthing and from what i can see, it dosent. i was walking past my passenger drip rail, and it caught my sweatshirt sleve, and it almost completely ripped off....yeah...it was that bad.
as i look at it more i more and more just wanna grind it down, smooth it out and have it be deleted. am i totally missing something big here or what? its a 68 coupe...

it seems like the drip rail itself was tacked on and then higher up on the window sill, at the top, is where there is two pieces of metal welded together...im guessing the roof and like the body?so im just gonna have to drill out the spot welds to pull the rest of the drip rail piece off, then slowly grind back, weld, grind back, weld, the rest of those two pieces of metal...if thats even what it is, i cant see very well yet as i havent cut much...

It's your car, do what you want.
There’s a reason Ford put drip rails on the old mustangs. If done right, it will probably look good. People will look at it and know there something wrong but can't figure it out until you tell them.

You might have leaking issues, but it's gonna look real cool, espicially if you shave the handles and mirrors. I also have a Ford F-100 and this is a common procedure on the trucks. Like you said, grind, cut, weld. Go slow, 1" sections at a time and you should be okay. Please take pics and let us know how it turns out.

Yeah, we talked about it and showed a pic or two of a 66 coupe I think it was. That wasn't too bad of a look, but I just can't picture your car without the rails. It might turn out OK and be on the cover of Mustang Monthly some day.
How is the weather strip held in on your car? The large trim piece on the Cougar fits under that drip rail, I would assume the Mustang is the same piece. You might have to make some changes to the trim so your windows arent just a baffle for outside air and water.
I have thought about it with the 71 as well, and the shiny trim for the Cougar isnt going back on. Just havent decided how I would work the trim for the weather stripping. Something to think about.

its more of a necessity to be honest....i mean i didnt go cutting it off, i was just trying to avoid it uptil last before paint and the thing got caught on my sweatshirt sleeve and ripped off half way because it was almost all rusty dust....on the other side i took my air compressor and sprayed air right through it in some places........i mean what can i do? its almost been chosen for me. theres a bit of good metal in the middle and the other end is the same thing...just a mess.
i mean i think it could look cool, but i didnt like "choose" this route.....
deebo68, do you have any pictures? or any not against the rules links? maybe email me them or something u know? PM maybe if thats allowed? j really wanna get a visual of it and be able to see it happening in my head....that helps a lot.
