Default Carb. spacer

Hey,
I have a 1/4" spacer on my carb right now that is shot. It is one of those fiber ones and it is just too old. Anyways, I was thinking about getting a 1" aluminum spacer for the carb. Has anyone done this? I heard it is supposed to bump up the torque a bit but the engine I have already kicks. They are not that expensive but I am also going with a 3" filter and wonder if I will have enough hood clearance. What do you think?

well for the filter part, just get a drop base (I'm guessing it's a K&N) oh and for those filters and drop bases and tops, the best price I found was on amazon.

I would recommend a phenolic spacer over an aluminum one. The aluminum will give you some heat transfer from the intake to the bottom of the carb, where the phenolic won't.

all the major car magazines have done dyno's on carb spacers, and the 1" spacer has historicallyprovided to most hp/torque, I believe it's related to increased velocity. The OEM spacer is aprox $40-50 at a boneyard, they're not cheap(obviously CA prices).

I run a 1" spacer on my 390 HiPo and it definitely makes a difference in throttle response.

Don't laugh, they sell wood spacers. FWIW, a 1" spacer is not going to work on my '65 with a 302 and an Edelbrock RPM air-gap manifold and a reproduction hi-po air cleaner.
