Default Depreciation

I guess we are lucky that our classics are appreciating instead of depreciating. I just checked on my 03 Mach1, and sadly to say it has depreciated about 10K over the past 3 years. I doubt my 65 is worth the 12 grand I have in it, but I have driven it for 10 years, so I guess I am money ahead with it as opposed to the Mach.

Unfortunately, I don't have 30 years of life to live, but you are probably right. Maybe when my son is in his 60's the Mach will be worth something.

Time to put a cover on her and stick it in the barn. That would really make someone's day bright in 30+ years...

I know, I wish to cover up a car in a sealed off chamber with a/c and heat for like 40 years. Then open it one day. It would be so cool.

Glen that is why I wont buy a new car. Why should I take the hit on depreciation just because I am driving it? it doesnt make sense..lol.. Of course I can fix anything on any vehicle I own, so its more feasable for someone like me to not buy a new car. we can McGuyver our old stuff forever and never have to pay labor to have it fixed. I dont give a rats fanny about a waranty.. never had a car with one, so why start now?

If i want a new body style, I wait untill they are depreciated out. When the loan value is around $5000-$7000 thats the time to buy one. Because then you arent paying $20,000 more for the same car and it still has plenty of life left in it. Well hotrods like Mustangs and F bodys are like that. Escorts, Civics, and family type cars like Intrepids arent worth spending $5000 on, but $1500 or less, sure no problem.

Buy up all the Cobras and MACH1s, and a few LS1 cars as well when they are dirt cheap. They will be worth something later.. maybe not stupid money like Muscle cars are now, but still.. something.. All of the $20-$1000 cars i bought over the last 20 years are now worth more than I have in them. Thats a bonus if i ever wanted to sell something..

I wont and cant buy a new car.. and it is perfectly fine with me..

that's why I'm glad these new mustangs are so popular, makes my chances of getting into an 03/04 cobra even better, and really I will never sell either of the cars so what do I care if it goes up or down in value. Now on the other hand, the boss loves the idea of a warranty, I guess that's why her car is the durango. And maybe later I'll pick up a fox, or a 60/70s cougar for the little one!
