engine idea's?
i'm new to the whole car world and such really, i just know i've always like the old 65' mustang, fav. car sence i saw it. (and no not cause of gone in 60 secs with their 67' elenor) but, my mustang has a 302 v8, whats a good performance engine? 289? 302? or 351? performance as in, loud as hell, runs good. and can top a high speed
and if my dad see's this hes probably call me a jackass cause he still says i dont need a bigger engine :P

289 it was the engine that let the mustang beat ferrari in the 60's it can be a stout motorand its pretty loud (with open headers) plus they are more higher revving engine and the most responsive i have driven in a classicthe 302 is nice in the fact that it has a tad bit more torque and that parts a more readily avail for it and the 351 not so high reving more of a torquer motor but it also has a vast amount of parts readily avail
Nah you dont need a bigger engine.. 289s and 302s are great engines for young people. Just enough power to get in trouble but not so much that you can really get stupid. No need to drive fast on the street, but I know how the need for more power is. if I would have had my 600+hp street ride when I was 16, I would be dead right now. As it was, there was a 302 2barrel in the 67 Cougar. Did alot of stupid stuff in that car, but I had to learn to respect it somehow. For me it was all about breaking stuff and being unable to get into town to chase the women. learning the hard way sucks..
Okay that being said.. you can grow into more power with your 302 really easily. Just give yourself the time to improve your skills and learn what to watch for when driving before you do it, ok? I thought I was good untill I went to Germany when I was 19. lol... Headers, dual exhaust, and a 500cfm 4 barrel would be good first upgrades. Those alone would be enough to get you so many speeding tickets you couldnt afford insurance untill you were 30. The 302 is a good place to start, easy to work on and parts are plentiful and relatively cheap. The biggest bonus is you have it in there already.
If you want some good ideas as to changes you can make for little to no cash, and sometimes larger changes for a bit more money, do a search on here for 302 and 289. Just take your time and do it right the first time, and dont wrap the car around a tree racing some idiot punk in a Civic who thinks he has the fastest ride on the planet and John Force should be asking him for speed and driving tips. Dont be that kid either because you have a V8... ok?
You want power, we can get you power. Its up to you to be responsible with it bro.. you sound like I did when I just got my license...
that might be a good or bad thing...lol.

that right a powerful motor is a privilege you have to earn it though (IMO) cause if you earn it you respect it more i remember hearing about some kid whos fam got him a new 06 mustang for highschool grad he treated it like crap and was racing a honda and he literaly wrapped it around a tree then his folks got him a corvette and do you wonder what he did with that or take another example some guy bought his kid a 66 Fastback and had it restored for his son well him and his buddies decide to try and jum a ditch in it well they didn't make it but daddy fixed it and he messed it up again so treat your car right
but not so much that you can really get stupid.

when i was 16 my dad was helping me build my first 302. when that motor was shot from a cheap cheap build and i was ready for something bigger, he gave me the foundation of whats in my car now. this is stuff he bought to build before i was born and had sitting in storage ever since. basically - 90% of my motor is true blue classic stuff. from the trw forged .440 pop-ups, to the single pattern "full race" cam.
theres something cool about era correct go-fast parts - plus the whole hand-me-down father/son thing.
anyways that nasty little 302 is proof you dont need big cubes to make gobs of power
that right when i am done with my 289 it will be a stout motor not a race car but a stout block that i can step on it and go
