Default Dash fix

I planned on cutting out the dash and welding another dash repo in this original one was riveted in place [:'(] over the huge hole. my question is can this dash be saved with a mig welder patience and some body filler? or should i just get a new dash from a donor car?

It would be a lot of work to drill out the spot welds holding the dash on from a donor car, and a lot of work welding it into your car, but that is the direction I would go if it were mine. You may have a difficult time finding a donor car with a good dash though. That hole looks bigger than the repair panel you can buy.

Here is a better pic of the dash as you can see the cover plate covers all of the dash. Im just debating on how good i can get it to look after i sand it and use light body filler

Here is a better pic of the dash as you can see it covers all of the holes. The small holes can be welded over. I am just woundering how good i can make it look with a little body filler

I dont know how hard it would be to R&R a new dash, but I think that I would forsure consider using the repair panell that you alreaddy have. I think that with enough patience, you could make what you have work quite nicely.

I am notreally that good ofa welder, but I think I could do ok with a mig and a grinder to make that repair almost invisible. I may be ill informed, but it seems to me that it would be a lot of work taking out that old dash. At least with this repair you will know what you are up against right from the begining. This factor alone could help you with the "discouragement factor" that sometimes raises it's head on extensive projects.

Yeah, now that I see the repair panel covers the main radio hole, it will repair. Get out your old trusty mig welder and have at it. Then grind the welds down flat, add a thin coat of bondo, sand that down to match the rest of the dash, then paint the entire dash.
