Cheap Spray
Thinkin about just gettin my mach 1 a cheap paint job. I dont want to dump the 4k for a perfect paint job with all the bodywork done. Just a quick little 500 or 800 dollar job to shine her up a new color. And its gonna be black. It doesnt have to be perfect, i dont want that quite yet, its just a daily driver and i'm 19. What ya'll think.
get ready for the usual "you CANT paint it black" no matter how much body work is done to straighten it etc etc...
the facts are, black shows details real good....so if your body isnt too straight....its gonna show....if you dont care and are willing to spend the $$$ then its not like the body shop is gonna like refuse to paint it the color you are going to pay for...but i bet if they care about the customer, will advise you otherwise......
if i was you i'd just save the $800 and put it towards body work supplies and start blocking that car out to the max then have then do the finishing body work and spray it for you.....that is if you can spray primer maybe....and do body work like blocking filler and stuff...either way.....
i dont think $800 is gonna get you anything good....unless you get the body work done for free.....thats not just black, i dont think white would even turn out "stellar"....

the only thing that most shops think of is that if you just do what the customer wants (espically if its a kinda shotty job) is that people will see it and ask you where it was done and you tell the the shops name and now everyone thinks that they dont do good work. that statement is really true for smaller family owned shops. why dont you just put it in a black epoxy primer it wont last for ever but it will do good for a while then paint it when your ready to. you can even prime it in a garage and that will give you some practice..
I doubt that even Maaco can paint your car for the 500-800 dollar range. You would be foolish to do it anyway,. Just polish up the old paint and put your money into something else. Save your pennies and have the paint job done right at a later time.
I'm thinkin with the mentality of comprimising my dreams with reality. I cant get it perfect the way i want it, dont have those kinda funds, plus its just a daily driver. I dont want a paint job where i'm worried about rocks or door dings or any other crap. So i really wanna get just a little cheapo job and fix a couple of the main body work probs. I know black is the worst color for imperfections, but i dont really care lol. I know i could have maaco do it for around 800 with some bodywork done as well. If she looks and sounds good from the other side of the street, thats all i need right now.

Look into HOTROD BLACK.. its a flat black that wont wear off like primer, will look street stealth cool, take a beating, and wont cost an arm and a leg to paint it. its similar to the flat black hood treatment. Ive had a number of cars that have been flat or satin black. Most look pretty cool like that too.. its an idea and you can do the paint work yourself with cheap paint. A can of tractor enamel up here runs about $50 a gallon... and its better than the rattle cans. Flat has a cool sorta vibe to it... try it, if you dont like it, hit it with some gloss clear and its shiny... win win.

i say go for it and get it painted black, all i hear about is how black is impossible to paint basically, yet i've never seen a black car with a "bad" paint job....im sure its hard to do black but i get the idea a lot of people who rant about how impossible it is have never really seen a bad black paint job either, let alone painted one...and are just jumping on the bandwagon....just like "oh asian makes are the best 'quality' cars and most reliable...because other people say so...and i dont really know anything about cars...." And besides, your willing to do it, and its fairly small amount of money for new paint, so i guess it would be sort of a cool experiment.
