Who is Patterson Engines? Do you know anything about this guy? Do you know anyone who has bought from him?His feedback is 100% but it looks like it's based on only 11 transactions. The guy may build great engines but I'm the kind ofperson who needs to deal with a local builder that I can get a hold of if I have problems. Don't forget you'll need a conversion intake manifold, the pan in the picture is a double sump and you'll need a timing cover.

I agree about using a local builder that you know. The starting price is more than I would pay for an engine that is a clone. And, I really get turned off with high pitched salesmen yelling with the cap locks on and trying to hock a product without a proven record. I'd pass.

There is one plus to purchasing across state lines ... no sales tax! I got my engine off of Ebay with free shipping and saved about $280 in sales taxes. Granted, I bought from a shop that has a real non-Ebay website and has a lot of positive feedback from buyers. The above link only has 11 positive feedbacks, all from sellers. It could turn out to be a really good engine, but I'd do all your homework first. Personally,if you're looking to make in the high 300/low 400hp rangeI'd stick to something with more conventional heads (i.e. aftermarket aluminum 302/351W). Also, I'm wondering why there isn't a more complete parts list in the listing like most other builders seem to do. Also, did I miss the part about a warranty? Mine came with 12/12,000.

Good luck!

[edit] It could be that he doesn't have a lot of feedback because he stops the auctions short and completes the transaction offline to avoid the steep Ebay fees. Even though I found mine on Ebay and researched it on the net, I ordered direct after speaking with the builder several times.

Copying a boss is not as simple as dumping Clevo heads on a 302 Windsor block.the bosshad 4 bolt mains, thicker cylinder walls, steel screw-in freeze plugs, different crank, heavier con rods anddifferent pistonsand you have modify one or more of the coolant passages on the heads andthis means a special intake manifold too.

of course it can all be done, but i'd be doing a lot more homework before i bought one like that off ebay. a genuine boss 302 engine is worth more than most of our cars!!!

+1 see the local builder
+1 Gothand - use the lighter, aftermarket alum heads.

good luck

yes acutally i have met the guy and he brought a motor just like this to carlisle pa and they are respected, the motor comes with a 1 year warranty adn the with the double sump would that mean i would have to worry about it with the fox its goin in. and the intake would just be a 650 carb i already have. i figure the timing cover i could take right off my motor, its the same block so.

i also knew this b/c i went lookin for boss heads when i first got my stang and found out they were cleve heads. and that is why i think that it might be worth it, b/c the machine work alone to make the cleve heads fit to the 302w is over 2000, and yea i have seen this motor in person at carlisle car show. so i kno that its no joke. just think its a little expensive.
