Default Wide Tire Size for 72 Fastback

A friend of mine recently bought a 72 fastback as a weekend driver. It currently has 14" rims but he wants to put 15" rims on with white letter tires. With 15" rims, how wide of a tire can he use withour causing wheel well interference? Will 15" rims fit?

Was 15" an optional tire size in 72? If so what was the original tire size for the option?

25.6" inches tall. You can go ~11 inches wide, depending if you get the right rim offset. You could go wider if you keep the rear fender above the tire with bump stops.

This is a 245/50-16 on a lowered'71.

Thanks for the reply. Specifically, he is looking at F60 tires with 15" rims. Will these be a direct fit without any spacers or other mods?

With the right rim, no problem. It's equivalent to a 235/60-15, and about 25.9" tall.
