Default Performer intake vs. Stock

I keep hearing people say they are the same except that the Performer is aluminum, and that just isn't the case. I hope people will check it out before they tell others that because its bad info.

Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifolds
Low-end torque with improved throttle response.

Edelbrock Performer intake manifolds are low-rise, dual-plane designs with patented runner tuning and a 180 degree firing order you won't find with the competition. This combination boosts torque over a wide rpm range, from idle to 5,500 rpm. These manifolds also deliver improved throttle response over stock intakes and are available in both EGR and non-EGR styles.

i think the general opinion is that while the performer rpm is "improved" or an "upgrade" from a stock manifold, its design is so close to a stock unit its not worth buying.

thats my take on it anyways.

note that the performer rpms look kinda like the old hipo shelby / cobra intakes, im sure they arent the same - but if you had one would you spend extra to buy the other? probably not because the differences are small

Sound's like you've been talking to the guy's on Edelbrock's tech line.Do you really think they're going to fess up to the fact that the Performer really isn't a whole lot better than a standard intake? They sure wouldn't sell many if they did.The Performer is a low rise dual plane with runners that are very close to stock length. It may offer a marginal increase in performance in some applications but IMO it'sreally notmuchbetterthan a factory manifold. My$.02.

unless your factory manifold is a 100lb 2bbl design and you find the performer on ebay for 50 bucks

Yes I have talked with a Edelbrock tech. My question to him was about whether or not I should buy the Performer rpm (I already had the Performer). After describing my engine, mods and drivetrain, he suggested I stay with the Performer.

I had my credit card out ready to buy the RPM Air Gap. It would have been an easy sale for them.

the regular old Performer intake is the same as stock, just dif material. the rpm is some how different and the airgap is an improvement on the regular rpm. I have the air gap. good luck with your decision.

It seems to me that in the 30 to 40 years between the orig. casting and the new, there would have to be improvements, but that is just my opinion!

What people are trying to say when they say that is, for the money, go ahead and get an RPM instead of a regular performer. The performer is close to stock manifolds, they just flow alittle better. The Air gaps are good for cooling off the air going to the engine alittle better.
