Default Electric Choke?

Hello all,

I got my car out of the shop a week or so ago after a carb rebuild and new heads and it was running great up until a couple of days ago. Now, it is really hard to crank when it's cold. I have a Holley 4V with electric choke. I'm guessing the choke has crapped out and isn't engaging because even when I finally do get it cranked it doesn't run at a higher RPM during warmup like it was. Up until this, I could just go out there, press the gas pedal a couple of time and it fired right up. If it is the electric choke, can you replace just that component?

Thanks,

I'm not really sure of the model, but here's a pic.

BTW, Ggruminator78, I think I saw somewhere that you are AF? Where in Texas are are you? I'm at Hill AFB, myself.

Holy Giant Holley Picture, Batman! [:-]
Have you physically looked to see if the choke is operating correctly? Does the butterfly operate freely and close when the engine is cold? Does it open when the engine warms up?

Sorry guys. I didn't think to resize the actual pic when I saved it down to a smaller file size. You know what they say about big pics, though....means you got a big camera.

Anyway, the only numbers I see on front are 80457-3 and 0914. Either of those mean anything?

The butterfly is wide open when cold, but it just sits there and runs about about 700 RPM even when it is first cranked up. After you get it cranked the first time (with much effort and cranking) it fires right up again unless it sits for a while and then it's hard to crank again.

When the engine is cold and you press and release the accelerator pedal the butterfly valve should close. It could be a choke linkage that is binding up on something or the maybe the thermostatic spring is shot. What happens when you try to move the butterfly valve?
