Get rid of that holley and it'll fix the problems.haha, Yeah, check the fuel pump, and if you have points... MOST DEFINATELY get a pertronix with flamethrower 2 coil, new wires, and the best plugs money can buy. That way you know it's not the ignition.

well if the fuel pump is new and it gave a fuel delivery rate on the box like 120gph then I would look to perhaps a kinked line or fuel filter. Some type of restriction.

If the pump gave no rate then its probably a pos.

First thought is timing.

Second thought is - is the linkage fully extending on the carb. You may get a good launch, however, if the linkage is not adjusted properly, you're not getting full throttle.

If you had fuel delivery issue, you'd get a "running out of fuel" issue as you're up in the rpm's going into second gear. The bowls are full at idle, when you stomp it, the carb needs to be fed, if there's flow issues, you'd get that feeling, so I'm rueling out fuel issues.

It's gotta be in timing or a linkage issue.

IMO, of course. That and .02c will get you nothing [8D]

I have an aftermarket igniton system, mallory hyfire box with a magnetic breakerless distributor. I have no idea what my timing is set at because i have no timing marker, i have been going by sound and until it smooths out. Does anyone have a pic of where their timing marker is on a 302, maybe a pic from where you would be standing above looking down as if you had the timing light on it. As far as the carb goes all i know is that it is a holley 670 street avenger that was a real POS. It was taking off my dads 69 cougar and i just basically got it to the point of running again, i switched the jets and replaced the power valve as well as replace the electric choke with a manual choke. Like i said before it doesnt ever feel like the secondaries kick in.

Oh yeah and the fuel pump was a cheap carter pump rated at 120 gallons. It was 24 bucks!

that holley shouldnt be a "p.o.s." but it is a tad on the large size for what you have. seeing as how you have no idea where your timing is i would definately check that first, then swap your secondaries spring for a lighter one.

the timing marker should be a little piece of steel that gets bolted down by two of the timing cover bolts

I know what the timing marker is, i just dont have one. When i installed the motor i never installed the timing marker cause i didnt have one, and i wasnt sure of the exact location becasue there are several holes it looks like it'll fit into down there. I dont want you to take it the wrong way, i prefer holley over edelbrock anyday, it was my specific carb that was fouled up, cause it was used and not new. I know that 670cfm is a little big for the 302 but that is why i changed to smaller jets, before i was fouling the plugs.

I have the good carter fuel pump http://www.carterfueldelivery.com/fu...mechanical.phpits the street racing one. its rated at 120 to 150gph I cant remember which. Not sure which one you have but if it has the rating I would look elsewhere for the problem.

Timing......You can't set advance by listening to the motor. I bet you have it way too advanced and at higher rpms you run out (total is too high)..
