Default Help with hood latch please

Hi,

I have a 67 mustang coupe and i am having a bit of trouble with my hood not staying closed properly.

It occasionally pops enough to only be held by the hook and often has to be messed-with/slammed quite a bit to get it to stay latched.

i have attached a pic of the latch. i am wondering if there is supposed to be a spring or something in the hole i have the arrow pointing to?

I know the latch is in the closed position but thatis the best way to view the little hole.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Gary

Yeah you're missing a spring. I drew a little line where it should go up but you'll have to get a flash light to see the other hole where it hooks.

Yeah Gary, that spring allows your hood latch to open and close. You can get one from any Mustang supply place. Here is what it looks like installed.

Gary...had the same problem on my 67 coupe. I took it off the whole latch, cleaned it up, painted it, lithum greased it, and found a spring at the hardware store which works just fine. Just enough tension to pull the hook part over to open the hood.

Yeah, if you are in OZ, ordering a spring from a US Mustang place would be silly. Look at the pic of the spring I gave you and just go to a hardware store in OZ and stick that sucker on there.

well i got a brand new hood latch that i bought from cjpony cuz it was on sale, but i am just going to use my old one since it is fine. I'd sell it to ya for what i paid plus the shipping costs.... that is if that is not against the forum rules.....
