AC recommendations
I am in the last stages of purchasing, and it is getting painful but staying on budget so that is ok.
what are the recommendations for the AC procurement - I am torn between the vintage air look where there is a box type unit that sits underneath the dash in the middle of the car OR should I go for the unit where everything is tucked underneath the dash and the unit uses the stock car vent system???? I am leaning toward the unit that sits in the middle handing below the dash - at least I can then control air flow much easier - I live in Los Angeles and it gets hot
Also, I should mention that I am not really concerned with having a concours look, the car is restomod all the way with all the modern conveniences (like disc brakes, power brakes, 3 point seat belts, headrests, electronic ignition.....)
Thanks

vintage air is nice http://www.classicautoair.com/ is too find the system you like and make sure its r134a the r12 freon is pricey as hell like 60 bucks or more a 12 oz can 143a is like 20 bucks or less a can
It's not illegal to use R12 but it has been illegal to produce it since 12/31/95 and it's illegal to purchase it without an EPA certification. You can still buy recycled R12 but you better have plenty of coin. The r134a route is the only cost effective way togo.
definitely going 134. has anyone used these generic AC units that are big and sit under the center of the dash??
The vintage air where it uses the existing ducts and just has a little duct on the far left and right of the car looks alot cleaner.
Can anyone give me guidance on how to think about comparing these 2 approaches - the big clunky box looks like it might be more effective at getting the AC to the person but the Vintage Air unit without the big box (and this kit has the new heater box as well) is so clean looking???????

I have the big chunky box in mine. It came that way from the factory. Anyhow, it is difficult to get the air to blow directly on you. I would think the Vintage air system would be more effective.
my step dads 55 belair has had a vintage air kit in it for 6 years still works great. and soaring you can buy r12 just need a licenese and since they stop making it every year the price goes up
