Default body work

Well im at the point with my car to start the body work. Ive built the car from the ground up all on my own so i figure what the hell...ill do the body work and paint too. putting paint down will be the easy part but body alignment and body work is new to me. also i have no idea how to work the fiberglass trunk lid.

any suggestion with getting started learning body work?

What kind of work are we taking. Body alignment is adding or removing shims and or loosening ad tightening bolts.
Now bodywork can be a few dings to cutting and welding on new skin. What kind of damage are we taking about?

I'd say go for it.

I hired a guy to do all the welding on my car. I wish I'd done it myself.
part of the way through the body work, I found 3/4" of bondo attached to the brand new quarter panel, I paid him to put on.

I ended up taking the whole car back down to bare metal.

So the body work is not too bad, I am learning to work the metal and have a mig, a shrinking disc, and various dollies.
I actually like the fiberglass work (hood, trunk, etc.) better. I learned to do the 'glass work on my boat, so I find it way easier.

I wish I had a painting booth, I'd paint it myself too.

Do as much of the work as u can yourself. It may not be as pretty as a professional but atleast you can say its your work, you did it.

Their is a difference in restoring a classic car and financing the restoration of a classic car.

imo

im going to have to replace the left rear quarter panel. the aftermarket right front fender fits horrible. other than that it will be just a few dings here and there and getting the gaps lined up. the fiberglass hood fits perfect. the trunk lid however is not straight.

the first thing i would do is make sure you have the supplies and equipment....cant do much welding without a welder...etc.....

then just go for it, if it dosent look good to you, you can do it over. i dono if you can link to other non-mustang, but car related websites but check out hotrodders.com and soaring can censor my suggestion if its not okay.

my brother in-law is a fantastic welder. he has been teaching me but i think i will still let him do the final touches. getting all the little bumps straight is my biggest concern

well then its even less hard. just gotta be somewhat coordinated and have some snading blocks and lots of sand paper and some body filler, preferably 3 kinds....the fiberglass kind, regular, and some glazing kind......some cheapo spreaders and stuff of course but im sure u could find something around the house for that.
