Buying a 69 coupe, how much is it worth?
I've been hunting for aclassicmustang from 65-70 within my budget. I wanted something that runs...not a project or something that needs full restoration. Although I do want tomake some improvements when time permits.
So I finally ran into a 69 mustangcoupe going for a good $7500. The guy won't budge from that price. The mustang has a new dark blue paintjob, with black interior. It hasnew carpet, reupholstered front and back seats, new grill, new headlights. The engine and the carb are original when the car was bought new, and were rebuilt about 50,000 miles ago.The wheels are not original but lookok with the car. The guy said that the a/c does get cold through the defroster, but doesn't work through the vents due to a diaphragm problem...not too sure about that but doesn't sound serious to me. The heater works, andeverything else works. He states the car is in perfect running condition. The body looks straight, but he did say there were a couple of small scratcheson the door and some paint chips on the hood -no dings no dents. There seems to be a bit of surface rust around the engine bay and underneath the car as well.
The car was inherited from their grandparents who bought it new in 1969, and they do have the paperwork for it. This is kind of a long distance buy as I'm going to fly down there and drive the car back home, so I kind of want some feedback as to whether you guys think this car is worth $7500. I'm not too familiar with classic mustangs and how to truly judge the value of them..but from searching on ebay and craigslist it seems that this year usually goes from 4,000 to 9,000. This one seems in pretty good condition, so I figured 7500 is fair, but I need some opinions and experts to help me decide. I've posted somelinks to pictures of the carbelow. I appreciate any responses.

That engine bay and chassis will clean up without too much effort. You might want to contact a member of the local Mustang club to go look at it before you spend the money to go look at it yourself. From all appearances, it looks just fine, but that rust underneath may reveal worse rusty things like floor pans, etc. The price is about right, so that is not the question, just the possible rust. Where is this car located?
new paint always makes me nervous - when you see it in person, take a lot of time to really check it out. It looks nice, until the bubbles start to appear....
good luck
good luck
i dont know where your at but if you go to cars.com search hattiesburg mississippi theres a 70 fastback says raceengine no pics you could give them a call and see if they could get you some pics price 6500
My mistake, I fixed the post title to coupe. Yah, the rust underneath might be more serious than it looks. I'm definitely skeptical about the paint and the guy is suppose to be sending me some high res close ups of the body soon. The car is in southern cali.
To me, driving a 38 year old car you just bought any distance is not a good thing, when I bought mie 700 miles away I took a trailer and towed it home. Plus if I didn't like it I could hop in my truck and be on my way...........
Yah, I wish I could do that but it's just not an option I have. I had some credit from a trip I cancelled anyways so flying down there isn't a big deal. I'm actually in Northern CA...but it's still a good 400 miles trip. There really isn't any other way...so I suppose I'm definitely going to be putting this car up to the test...the guy says it's extremely reliable and getting up here won't be a problem though...but you know how that goes...400 miles is a long way.
