Default What do you think?

My car is nearing completion and I was wondering if anyone would like to offer an opinion on what I may be looking at from a power standpoint. The motor I put in the car has the following.

Hi-po 289 bored 10 over
Hi-po exhaust manifolds
2 1/4 Flowmaster exhaust with H pipe
Edelbrock Performer 289 Intake
Edelbrock 550 CFM 4bbl
Pertronix Ignition
3/4 rv cam
Stock AC
Stock fuel pump, air cleaner....pretty much everthing else stock from hi-po 289 motor.
I am running a C4 auto with a 355 ford 9" behind the motor.

HP guesses are good, but I haven't driven the car yet and I am curious to what to expect as far as ow it feels. Last time I drove the car was with a worn out I6, so I imagine it will be quite a difference. What do you think?

Wow, I'm jealous. You have what is basically an original 289 HiPo engine. They were rated at 271HP at the flywheel back in the day, but yours may be a tad higher. It's not a neck breaking "Oh My God" amount of horsepower, but enough to put a grin on your face.

I just want a "grin on my face car". I am in my late 30's and I don't need a rocket. But this rebuild has been 20 years in the making and I wanted "my car" to be what I always wished it was (although at age 16, in retrospect, it is a good thing my dreams were unrecognized). Don't be jealous Soaring, you have just what you want, in a way I am jealous of you. Mine will never be original again, and I can see the appeal in having just that.

I know I will. Thanks for replies. I wish car was finished now, but it would just be sitting in the garage because the roads are still so dirty here. Can't wait till Spring when it will be done and weather will be friendly. I think I am going to run it down to the car show in Moab. Anyone else go there?

Always wondered what specs a 3/4 cam has... especially since its a term used for flatheads..

Sounds like a fun driver, not radical but not booring. Winter sucks.. so does the snow everywhere.

Its a new economy cam. It only actuates 3/4 of the valves so it runs on 6 cylinders for better gas mileage. I thought everyone knew that.

Well, that sounds like a dumb invention. If you have 8, why not cam for 8?

Oh okay.. I thought maybe it opened the valves 3/4".. you know .750" now that would be a heck of an economy cam right there, since you wouldnt want to drive it the fuel useage would be low..

I guess I just got used to driving with 6 cylinders so I had them leave off 1/4 of the cam. Saves money on gas and sparkplugs.
