Default Monte Carlo bar installed

Well it took some swearing and a couple of brusied knuckles, but we finally got our Monte bar installed. It was like everyone said it would be...the shock towers were so far bowed in that we had to let the car sit on stands for about a week and then it was still about 1/2 inch out for one of the bars so we used the second one we had. A bit of pushing and forcing it and it went in. The son was immediately impressed how much it stiffened the front end, and its still up in the air on jack stands!! Soaring, we got the straight bar rather than a curved one because I am from the old school that thinks that anything that is bent in any manner is already weakened. Will check it out next weekend if possible due to a brake problem we are still working on.

Yeah I wondered that too about the curved ones. Seems the curve would allow for flex. The straight one would be much harder to flex I would gather.

I had a straight MC bar on mine, and it had to be bent slightly to fit arounnd the original air cleaner. It looked like crap to me, so I
had to revert to the curved MC bar to make it look right. If you use the aftermarket carb covers, then you can use the straight ones, but if you are staying stock or going with an oval 4v edelbrock type air cleaner , you have to use the curved ones.
I have yet to read any advantage the straight MC bar offers over the curved one. If you can produce that information with factual backup, I will make it so in the FAQ.

anyone know/have the curved mc bar on a 68 w/ the sanden a/c compressor and oval air cleaner?

I get conflicting advice on whether it'll fit around the a/c compressor (PO installed it... nice to have but I probably wouldn't have bothered)

The straight MC bar did not interfere with my ac compressor. However, it would certainly interfere with the oval air cleaner.

Yea, I questioned the integrity of the curved bars until I got one for myself. These bars are engineered tough. I do think it is better to have a little flex....if there is no flex then something else may break. I did not really need a curved one but I may go back to my stock air cleaner some time. And I have to agree with atomsk680, they do look better than the straight ones.

Got a curved one onmy 68 Coupeto fit around the current air cleaner plus I have future plans for a 4V edelbrock carb and possibly an oval air cleaner. The bar fit fine around the air cleanerand no interference with theAC compressor. It also fit right in, no problems whatsoever.

I agree w/ the looks and flex of the curved bar , just seems not a bad idea to have a little movement

think i'll give the local parts store a try to see if they have one in stock to test fit ... mines a vert so it'd be nice to add one
